Overview
- Northern Territory Police say they charged Luke Gosling on Tuesday over an alleged breach of bail that they say occurred on August 14 and served him with a summons to appear in Darwin Local Court on 30 September 2026.
- Gosling was arrested in July and later charged with two counts of assault over an alleged incident involving Northern Territory Administrator David Connolly at the Darwin Thai Grand Festival.
- A Darwin judge varied Gosling’s bail on July 31 to ban him from coming within 50 metres of Government House, require 48 hours’ notice before events Connolly would attend, and force a 15-metre separation when both attend the same event.
- Prosecutors had opposed that bail variation and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions is preparing to assume the assault case from the NT DPP, a move that raises questions about perceived conflicts in the local office.
- The case carries wider political risk because Gosling continues as the government’s special envoy for defence and veterans and a conviction with a one-year prison term or more could disqualify him from parliament and trigger a by‑election.
