Overview

  • U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman issued a temporary restraining order on May 27 that bars the Department of Transportation from withdrawing approval or withholding federal funds until at least June 9.
  • Since its January launch, the program has levied a $9 toll on most vehicles entering Manhattan south of 60th Street during weekday peak hours.
  • The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has collected about $215.7 million to date and remains on pace to meet its $500 million revenue goal for 2025 to fund $15 billion in transit upgrades.
  • Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy revoked the program’s federal approval in February, prompting the MTA to file suit in federal court.
  • Governor Kathy Hochul hailed the ruling as a vindication of New York’s authority to manage its own traffic policy and protect commuter investments.
