Overview

  • U.S. District Judge Hernán D. Vera issued the temporary restraining order on July 10 after citing at least 35 incidents of less-lethal munitions and other force used against journalists between June 6 and 19
  • The order forbids officers from using rubber bullets, tear gas, flash-bang grenades or citing and detaining reporters unless they pose an immediate threat
  • Los Angeles Press Club and investigative network Status Coup filed the suit alleging violations of First Amendment rights during coverage of ICE raids and subsequent protests
  • LAPD’s Professional Standards Bureau has confirmed investigations into 59 use-of-force complaints stemming from the immigration-related demonstrations
  • A preliminary injunction hearing is set for July 24 to decide whether the temporary order should be converted into a longer-term injunction
