Federal Government to Install 40 Smart TVs in Maximum-Security Prisons for ReintegraCINE

The upgrade replaces DVD and VHS screenings with curated sessions under strict security rules that block inmate access to the internet.

Overview

  • Senappen says inmates will not have direct access to the devices or to any internet-connected equipment, with TVs preconfigured under federal prison protocols.
  • Programming will be selected by the Divisão de Reabilitação, vetted by the Divisão de Segurança e Disciplina, and participant lists will be approved by each unit’s disciplinary council.
  • Authorities report purchasing 40 internet-capable, 50-inch 4K sets for distribution across the five federal facilities in Catanduvas, Campo Grande, Mossoró, Porto Velho and Brasília.
  • Media reports cite a total cost of about R$ 85.4 thousand for the equipment, which will be used for controlled audiovisual and musical content within the reintegration program.
  • Operations will begin after full delivery and configuration of the TVs, with a deadline set for February 2026, and a separate request by Jair Bolsonaro for a TV remains before the STF as the PGR is asked to opine.
