Federal Forces Disable Four Clandestine Meth Labs in Michoacán and Guerrero

Authorities said removing over 10 tonnes of chemical precursors and dozens of reactors will weaken criminal production networks with investigations now under way.

Overview

  • Security forces located, dismantled and rendered unusable four clandestine methamphetamine laboratories in sites near Carácuaro, Michoacán, and in Zirándaro and Coahuayutla de José María Izazaga, Guerrero.
  • The operations were led by the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional, the SSPC and the Guardia Nacional in coordination with state authorities.
  • Officials seized and destroyed more than 10 tonnes of precursors and chemicals and large equipment including 27 reactors, 54 gas tanks, 45 pots, 57 large tubs and six 1,000-liter containers.
  • Federal agents completed the inactivations despite coming under gunfire from unidentified criminal shooters, and authorities have notified the Ministerio Público while security sweeps continue to try to detain those responsible.
  • The actions are part of a wider campaign that has inactivated over 2,700 clandestine labs nationwide and are meant to cut production capacity and disrupt the logistics and finances of criminal groups.
