Federal Court Sanctions LLA Activist Marco Chediek Over Death Threats, Orders Donations and TikTok Apology

The court deemed the social-media messages unprotected threats that aimed to generate fear.

Overview

  • Tribunal Oral Federal N°5 ordered donations of two million pesos to Hospital Garrahan and two million to the Comedor Pequeños Valientes in Benavídez.
  • The sentence requires one year of community work at an institution designated by Cáritas plus a public apology to be posted on TikTok.
  • The case stems from December 2023 videos that threatened Juan Grabois, Roberto Baradel, Rubén “El Pollo” Sobrero and Hugo Moyano if protests went forward.
  • The complaint by Grabois and Baradel moved ahead with support from Argentina Humana, CELS and SUTEBA after Judge Daniel Rafecas found the posts exceeded free-speech protections and sought to instill fear.
  • During the proceedings, Marco Chediek acknowledged responsibility, and the case was elevated to trial before the federal panel that issued the ruling.
