Federal and State Officials Accelerate Plan Oriente After Water Gains in Ecatepec

Leaders say faster delivery of projects will help close decades-long service gaps across the eastern municipalities of the State of Mexico.

Overview

  • This week federal, state and 10 municipal leaders met at the Secretaría de Gobernación to review progress and order an acceleration of the Plan Integral de la Zona Oriente.
  • Ecatepec reports that piped water coverage rose to about 85 percent from roughly 35 percent at the start of the administration after rehabilitating 24 wells and work by Conagua.
  • Conagua reperforated five wells and has handed over three to residents, including Pozo Colosio 2 which yields about 37 liters per second and serves roughly 30,000 people.
  • Work under the plan already includes the 5-million-liter Tanque Maestro de Ciudad Cuauhtémoc and a planned 10-million-liter tank, alongside schools under construction, road repaving and health projects.
  • The initiative targets more than 10 million residents across 11 municipalities with 121 priority actions and a projected budget of 75,786 million pesos, making intergovernmental coordination the key test for delivery and oversight.
