FDA Upgrades Intercon Hand Soap Recall to Class II After Bacteria Detected

Overview

• Intercon issued a voluntary recall of six commercial hand soap items on June 29, and the FDA upgraded that recall to Class II on Friday after new laboratory results indicated contamination.
• The FDA reported that two foaming pear-scent soaps — Intercon Foaming Pear Hand Soap With Aloe and Clearly Better by Intercon Foaming Pear Hand Soap With Aloe — tested positive for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, P. putida, P. monteilii, Serratia marcescens and S. nematodiphila.
• About 2,600 to nearly 3,000 cases of the six products were shipped to roughly 20 consignees, including wholesalers and one retail distributor, across 15 states such as Texas, California, Illinois and New York.
• The recall notice lists product names, package sizes, case counts and best-by dates from November 2026 through May 2028 to help buyers and institutions identify and remove affected lots.
• Class II means exposure could cause temporary or medically reversible harm, so health-care facilities, food-service operators and janitorial suppliers are being urged to check lot numbers, pull inventory and report any illnesses to public health authorities.
