FDA Posts AquaStar Recall of 85,000 Shrimp Bags Sold at Kroger Over Possible Cesium-137

Regulators tie the latest action to an Indonesian processor now under an import alert.

Overview

  • AquaStar (USA) Corp. recalled roughly 85,000 bags covering three shrimp products after an FDA notice flagged potential cesium-137 contamination.
  • The affected items include Kroger Raw Colossal EZ Peel Shrimp, Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp, and AquaStar Raw Peeled Tail-on Shrimp Skewers with specified lot codes and dates.
  • Products were sold June 12 to September 17 across 31 states at Kroger-owned banners such as Ralphs, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Fry’s, and others.
  • The shrimp was processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati of Indonesia, the supplier linked to earlier Walmart-related recalls, and is now subject to an FDA import alert with enhanced CBP screening.
  • No illnesses have been reported; consumers are urged to discard the listed lots or return them for refunds, and the FDA says testing that triggered the probe occurred during port inspections.
