FDA Issues Class I Recall for Ambriola-Supplied Pecorino Romano Sold Under Boar’s Head and Locatelli

The FDA’s highest-risk designation signals a serious health hazard that requires rapid removal from commerce.

Overview

  • Ambriola Company recalled select Pecorino Romano products over potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination, with no illnesses or consumer complaints reported.
  • Impacted items include Boar’s Head Grated Pecorino Romano 6 oz (UPC 0-42421-05858; sell-by 11/21/25–3/12/26) and Locatelli Pecorino Romano Grated Cheese (UPC 41793-82493), plus Boar’s Head EverRoast Chicken Caesar salads and wraps that contain the grated cheese (best by 11/9/25–11/22/25).
  • Boar’s Head halted purchases from Ambriola and, as a precaution, withdrew Ambriola-supplied pre-cut Pecorino Romano wedges that were not part of the recall.
  • Retailers pulled affected products and posted advisories, with Kroger listing distribution of the salads and wraps in Kentucky and Indiana and Big Y, Wegmans, Tops and others removing implicated items.
  • Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled products and to discard or return them for a refund, with inquiries directed to Ambriola or Boar’s Head customer service.
