Overview

• AquaStar recalled 26,460 six-ounce cocktail shrimp packages sold at Walmart in 27 states and about 18,000 two-pound Kroger Mercado cooked shrimp bags sold in 17 states.
• Earlier recalls from Beaver Street Fisheries, H & N Group, and Southwind Foods targeted Great Value, Sea Best and other brands tied to the same Indonesian processor.
• U.S. Customs and Border Protection flagged potential contamination at ports in Los Angeles, Houston, Miami and Savannah, and the FDA confirmed cesium-137 in a single shrimp sample.
• Measured radioactivity in the confirmed sample was about 68 becquerels per kilogram, well below the FDA’s 1,200 Bq/kg Derived Intervention Level, but long-term repeated exposure can raise cancer risk.
• The FDA placed PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods) on an import alert over suspected insanitary conditions, classified some recalls as Class II, and advised consumers to discard or return affected products.
