FDA Expands Ground Cinnamon Recall to 16 Brands Over Elevated Lead

FDA has expanded its nationwide recall of ground cinnamon after detecting high lead levels in several brands.

  • Four newly listed products — HAETAE, Roshni, Durra and Wise Wife — join a dozen previously named ground-cinnamon brands in the expanded recall.
  • State retail sampling found elevated lead that the FDA verified, with reported concentrations ranging from roughly 2.0 ppm up to about 7.68 ppm in certain lots.
  • Consumers are urged to stop using and throw away the listed products, check long-shelf-life spices in their cabinets, and consult a healthcare provider if they have exposure concerns.
  • Recalled items were distributed through national and regional retailers, including Dollar Tree and Save-A-Lot, and via distributors such as Raja Foods and Asli Fine Foods.
  • The recall, first issued in July 2024, has been updated multiple times, and the FDA says testing and investigations continue with no confirmed illnesses reported to date.
