FDA Elevates Organic Blueberry Recall to Highest Risk Level

Alma Pak International’s voluntary recall now covers 400 boxes identified by lot numbers 13325 G1060, 13325 G1096, following Listeria detection

Overview

  • Alma Pak International LLC initiated the recall on June 9 after routine tests detected Listeria monocytogenes in its organic blueberries
  • On July 1 the FDA upgraded the action to a Class I recall, indicating a reasonable probability of serious health consequences or death
  • The affected product consists of 400 boxes weighing 30 pounds each that were shipped to a single North Carolina customer
  • Listeriosis symptoms range from fever and gastrointestinal distress to invasive illness, with pregnant women, older adults and immunocompromised people at highest risk
  • The recall remains active and the FDA advises anyone with the recalled blueberries or symptoms of listeriosis to contact a healthcare provider immediately
