FDA Elevates Ambriola Pecorino Romano Recall to Highest Class Over Listeria Risk

Ambriola has halted production pending an FDA review.

Overview

  • Routine testing found Listeria monocytogenes at the company’s West Caldwell, N.J., facility, prompting a nationwide recall first posted Nov. 26.
  • The Class I designation, issued Jan. 6, covers eight grated Pecorino Romano products sold under Locatelli, Boar’s Head, Pinna, Member’s Mark and Ambriola brands.
  • Affected items were distributed between Nov. 3 and Nov. 20, 2025, reaching retailers and distributors in 20 states including Arizona, California, New Jersey, New York, Texas and Washington.
  • Consumers should not eat the listed products and should discard them or return them for a refund, and anyone with listeria symptoms should contact a healthcare provider.
  • No illnesses have been reported to date, and Ambriola says it is working with regulators on sanitation and testing across the facility.
