FDA Clears Pixel Watch 3's Life-Saving Loss of Pulse Detection for U.S. Users
The feature, already available in 14 European countries, will roll out to U.S. devices by the end of March.
- Google's Pixel Watch 3 has received FDA clearance for its Loss of Pulse Detection feature, enabling automatic emergency calls if a user's pulse stops and they are unresponsive.
- The feature uses AI and multipath heart rate sensors to detect pulse loss due to events like cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose, or poisoning.
- If no pulse is detected, the watch initiates a series of checks, sounds an alarm, and, if no response is received, calls emergency services and shares the user's location.
- Developed with input from cardiologists and tested using stunt actors and clinical data, the feature has been available in 14 European countries since late 2024.
- The rollout in the U.S. is scheduled for the end of March and will join other Pixel Watch safety features like Fall Detection and Car Crash Detection.
