In 2017, investigators exhumed the body of Father Joseph Maskell, a Catholic priest, to check if his DNA matched evidence from Cesnik's death scene, but no match was found.
Earlier this year, authorities solved the case of 16-year-old Pamela Conyers, who went missing from the same shopping mall as Malecki and died from strangulation, using DNA technology and genealogy research.
Malecki's family, who will be allowed to attend the exhumation, are seeking justice and closure, even 54 years after the incident.
