FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitive Alejandro Rosales Castillo Arrested in Mexico, Faces Extradition

The Pachuca capture capped years of joint U.S.–Mexico investigative work, triggering extradition proceedings.

Overview

  • Mexican authorities arrested the 27-year-old U.S. citizen in Pachuca, Hidalgo, on Jan. 16, and he is being held in a Mexico City prison pending extradition to North Carolina.
  • Castillo is sought on a North Carolina first-degree murder warrant and a federal unlawful-flight warrant tied to the 2016 killing of Truc Quan “Sandy” Ly Le.
  • Mexico’s security secretary said Castillo had a red notice and an arrest warrant for extradition, listing offenses that include first-degree murder, armed robbery, vehicle theft and kidnapping.
  • Investigators say surveillance recorded him crossing into Mexico from Nogales, Arizona, the day after Le disappeared, and her car was later found at a Phoenix bus station.
  • The FBI placed Castillo on its Ten Most Wanted list in 2017 and offered up to $250,000 for information, with Director Kash Patel noting this marks the fifth Ten Most Wanted capture since 2025.
