FBI Says Trump Rally Gunman Acted Alone After Global Probe

Leaders described a worldwide investigation that accessed all linked devices, with the case now in inactive status.

Overview

  • Officials reported no domestic or foreign co-conspirators or direction, including from any government or organization.
  • Investigators conducted more than 1,000 interviews, reviewed roughly 2,000 tips, executed over 10 search warrants and about 100 subpoenas, and assigned 485 personnel to the case.
  • The FBI accessed 35 linked accounts and 13 devices, including full contents of Crooks’ email accounts hosted in Germany and Belgium within days of the attack.
  • Forensics show Crooks fired eight rounds with a .223 rifle, left extra ammunition and an undetonated explosive in his car, killed Corey Comperatore and critically injured two others, and was then shot by a Secret Service sniper.
  • The bureau says President Trump was fully briefed and satisfied with the findings, publicly rejected cover-up claims, and will reopen the case if credible new leads arise.
