FBI Probes Mayor Adams' 2021 Campaign over Alleged Illegal Donations, Turkish Companies Suspected Involved

Disturbing Findings from FBI Raids and Search Warrants Reveal Involvement of Turkish Ties in Suspected Illegal Fundraising Activity Involving Mayor Adams' 2021 Campaign Donations

  • The FBI is investigating Mayor Eric Adams' 2021 campaign over allegations of illegal foreign donations from Turkish entities, one of which is a Brooklyn-based construction company known as KSK. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is also scrutinizing the campaign for alleged illegal straw donations.
  • The probe came into the limelight following an FBI raid on the home of Brianna Suggs, a key fundraiser for Mayor Adams. During this raid, agents seized three iPhones, two laptops, papers including a folder labeled Eric Adams, and materials related to donors.
  • KSK, the Brooklyn-based construction company with strong Turkish ties, is believed to be central to the investigation. The company hosted a fundraising party for Eric Adams in 2021, which reportedly yielded nearly $75,000 with matching funds, in potential violation of city campaign laws requiring the company to register with the city’s Campaign Finance Board as a campaign “intermediary”.
  • According to federal law, foreign nationals are prohibited from contributing to any federal, state or local elections in the United States. If a Turkish national were to channel donations through a third party, it would breach federal law. This legislation aims to prevent foreign governments, such as Turkey, from influencing U.S. elections.
  • The lawyers representing both Mayor Adams and Suggs are Brendan McGuire and Boyd Johnson from the law firm WilmerHale. However, legal experts noted that depending on whether Suggs is charged, having the same attorney as the mayor might not be in her best interest.
