Overview
- The FBI announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible.
- The attack occurred around 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 22 about 1,000 feet north of the U.S.-Mexico border in the Valley of the Moon area near the San Diego–Imperial county line.
- Two male suspects fired toward four hikers, wounded one in the leg, then held the group at gunpoint and stole their valuables.
- The injured hiker was flown to a San Diego hospital, and officials said the wounds were not considered life-threatening.
- The suspects were last seen heading southwest toward Mexico, and the FBI says the investigation remains active with tips also accepted via local field offices or U.S. embassies and consulates.
