Overview
- The assault occurred around 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 22 about 1,000 feet north of the international boundary in Valley of the Moon near the San Diego–Imperial county line.
- Two unknown Hispanic male suspects fired at four hikers, struck one, then held the group at gunpoint and took valuables.
- The wounded hiker suffered a leg injury described as non-life-threatening and was airlifted to a San Diego hospital.
- The suspects were last seen moving southwest toward the Mexican border and remain at large in an active investigation.
