FBI Investigates NYC Mayor Eric Adams' Campaign for Alleged Ties with Turkish Government

Investigation probes alleged conspiracy between Adams' campaign, Turkish government, and a Brooklyn-based construction firm over potentially illegal foreign donations; charismatic mayor defends past engagement with Turkey, claims no knowledge of any improper fundraising activity.

  • The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating claims that New York City Mayor Eric Adams' 2021 election campaign conspired with the Turkish government to receive illegal foreign donations. This inquiry involves Adams' chief fundraiser Brianna Suggs, whose house was recently raided by the FBI.
  • A Brooklyn-based construction company, KSK Construction Group, is also under investigation for allegedly masking illegal foreign donations under the pretense of donations from Americans. The company is owned by Turkish businessmen.
  • Adams has often praised his relationship with the Turkish government, stating he has visited the country multiple times. Researchers are exploring connections between Adams, his campaign donations, the Turkish government, and a Washington D.C.-based university with ties to Turkey and Adams.
  • This investigation follows a 'straw donor' scandal earlier this year, where six people linked to Adams' campaign were charged with scheming to divert public funds to his campaign. Two of Adams’ campaign contributors pleaded guilty to the charges.
  • Despite the allegations, no crimes have been charged against Adams or his campaign. He strongly denies knowledge of any improper fundraising activity and has publicly disapproved of any attempts to manipulate democracy and defraud his campaign.
