  • On May 27 the Punjab Vigilance Bureau detained Inspector Manjeet Singh and senior Constables Rajpal, Shinder Pal, and Sumeet Kumar for allegedly extorting ₹1 lakh from a minor’s family after seizing his phone in a cybercrime matter.
  • The case was brought to light when teenager Dilraj Singh’s father, Dharminder Singh, approached Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann with recorded evidence of the bribe demands after unsuccessful appeals to the Fazilka SSP.
  • Chief Minister Mann suspended Senior Superintendent of Police Varinder Singh Brar on May 28 for failing to curb corruption in his district and appointed Provincial Police Service officer Gurmit Singh as the new SSP.
  • Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema reiterated the AAP government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and pledged strict legal action against any official found guilty of misconduct.
  • The Vigilance Bureau’s investigation remains active and the arrested officers face prosecution on charges of corruption and extortion.
