Overview
- The victim was shot around 5 p.m. Tuesday while picking up his child at the Abeona House Child Discovery Center in Mid-City, according to New Orleans police.
- NOPD said the man was shot during a carjacking on Bienville Street and was found mortally wounded a few blocks away on Canal Street.
- Officers tracked the stolen vehicle to I-10 in Metairie near the Bonnabel exit roughly four hours later and found the suspected shooter, identified as Raymond Wells, in the car with a gunshot wound to the head.
- Wells was transported to University Medical Center and remains in extremely grave or critical condition, police said.
- The New Orleans Police Department and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating and are seeking witness tips, including accounts such as one resident who reported seeing a gunman fire repeatedly until his weapon appeared to jam.
