Father Jailed for Running Down Man in Taco Bell Car Park After Bullying Dispute

The case stemmed from a meeting over alleged bullying that escalated into a violent confrontation.

Overview

  • Liverpool Crown Court sentenced Bryan Southern, 55, to 30 months in prison and disqualified him from driving for three years and three months.
  • He pleaded guilty to attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent and to dangerous driving.
  • CCTV showed Southern twice drove at Andrew Sanders in a Kirkby Taco Bell car park, with the car stopping only after hitting a lamppost and Sanders suffering leg abrasions.
  • Prosecutors said the clash began as a roughly even fight and that Sanders produced a hammer as the men’s sons attempted to smash wing mirrors.
  • After leaving the scene, Southern failed to stop for police, reached about 50mph in a 30mph zone, and ran two red lights, as the judge said he used the car as a weapon and noted provocation and remorse.
