Father Drowns While Saving Children on Father's Day at Fort Lauderdale Beach

Deemed an accidental drowning, the death now falls under active investigation by Fort Lauderdale police

Overview

  • At about 7:20 p.m. on June 15, 33-year-old Antwon Wilson entered the ocean off the B Ocean Resort to rescue his two young daughters in distress
  • Lifeguards had gone off duty at 7 p.m. and rushed back upon hearing the distress call, rescuing both children
  • Good Samaritan Eslam Saad also entered the water to help but became overwhelmed and self-rescued before paramedics arrived
  • Paramedics located Wilson underwater minutes later and he was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center
  • Both of Wilson’s daughters and the bystander are awake and responsive at the hospital and are expected to recover
