Overview
- California State Park peace officers responded around 4:15 p.m. to reports of screaming near Moreno Beach at Lake Perris.
- A patrol vessel reached the capsized kayak and recovered a 54-year-old who was unconscious and partially submerged as his 7-year-old son remained conscious and held onto him.
- Rescuers pulled both from the water, performed CPR on the father, and transported them to Riverside University Health System, where he was pronounced dead and the boy was evaluated.
- California State Parks law enforcement and the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Office are investigating, and authorities have not released the man's name.
