Father Charged With Manslaughter After Leaving Son in Hot Car

Held on a six-figure bond pending a July 8 arraignment, he is accused of negligent parenting that allowed his son’s internal temperature to exceed 110°F.

Overview

  • On June 6, Scott Allen Gardner allegedly left his 18-month-old son Sebastian in a parked truck for more than three hours to get a haircut and drink at Hanky Panky’s Lounge in Ormond Beach.
  • Medical examiners estimated Sebastian’s body temperature reached 111°F inside the vehicle before he was pronounced dead around 3:30 p.m. at a local hospital.
  • Police say Gardner provided multiple false accounts before officers, including the Ormond Beach cop who attempted CPR, arrested him on June 19 at his mother’s home.
  • The 33-year-old is charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and child neglect causing great bodily harm and is held on a $100,000 bond in Volusia County Jail.
