Father and Stepson Murdered by Neighbor Over Noise Dispute in NYC Historic Apartment Complex
Father of four and stepson shot multiple times in botched verbal dispute, as authorities launch manhunt for armed neighbor seen fleeing the Brooklyn complex in surveillance footage.
- Bladimy Mathurin, 47, and his stepson Chinwai Mode, 27, were shot multiple times in their Brooklyn apartment complex following a dispute with a downstairs neighbor over noise. This altercation had been reportedly ongoing for several years.
- The victims were shot at point-blank range in the hallway of their building, with the altercation caught on surveillance footage. The footage showed Mathurin brandishing scissors before the neighbor pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and began firing.
- Following the shooting, the armed suspect calmly entered the building elevator and fled the scene. Despite having been identified by police, the suspect's name has not been made public, and he is still at large.
- The apartment complex at 1418 Brooklyn Ave. is historically notable, having been the childhood home of several famous individuals, including Barbra Streisand and Michael K. Williams.
- Marie Delille, wife of Mathurin and mother of Mode, recounted the traumatizing event. Mathurin, she said, was unarmed and had been working two jobs, as a school bus driver and an Uber driver, to provide for their family.
