Overview
- A newborn called “Baby Angelita” was found dead beside the 100 block of Struve Road north of Moss Landing on Aug. 1 and a post-mortem exam found signs of traumatic injury.
- A Superior Court judge issued a murder warrant for the unnamed 14-year-old, and investigators obtained arrest warrants for 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez on multiple counts including incest, lewd acts with a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment and child endangerment.
- Detectives used Flock automated license-plate readers to trace a beige 2010 Mercury Milan (CA plate 6HCR883) which helped develop leads; investigators arrested the girl’s mother, Ofelia Garcia Ortega, on a felony child endangerment charge and she later posted bail.
- Sheriff Tina Nieto and other officials say the 14-year-old is both a suspect in the newborn’s death and an alleged victim of sexual abuse by Perez, whom investigators have confirmed is the biological father of the teen and the newborn and say the girl became pregnant at 13.
- The investigation remains active with many forensic details withheld, authorities warn the public not to approach Perez, they urge tips to Detective Sgt.
