Father, 7-Year-Old Son Die as Auto Plunges Into Dundigal Lake During Ganesh Immersion

Police say the vehicle hit a rock in the dark, sending it into the water.

Overview

  • Dundigal police identified the victims as D. Srinu, 34, a goods carrier driver, and his son D. John Wesley, 7.
  • Officers said Srinu was helping transport small Ganesh idols installed by local children and, while attempting a U-turn, the auto likely veered off the path into the lake.
  • No one at the immersion site saw the vehicle go in, and a missing persons complaint from the family prompted the search.
  • On Monday morning, DRF teams from HYDRAA located and craned out the auto with both victims trapped inside, citing difficult conditions due to depth and poor visibility.
  • Dundigal police registered a case under BNSS Section 194 and opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
