Overview

• Officers were called around 12:00 BST to reports of a casualty on the tracks near Gatley station, where the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
• All lines between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport are closed, with trains cancelled, diverted or delayed.
• National Rail expects disruption to continue until at least 3:30pm as emergency services and Network Rail engineers work on site.
• Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales services are affected across the corridor.
• Passengers are advised to use Metrolink or the free Bee Network bus to the airport and to retain tickets for possible delay compensation.
