Fatal crash near Bay Bridge causes major traffic disruption

A wrong-way collision involving three vehicles early Tuesday morning resulted in one fatality and significant traffic delays.

A three-vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver occurred around 4:30 a.m. on westbound Interstate 580 at the MacArthur Maze, leading to the Bay Bridge.
One person was killed in the collision, and several others suffered major injuries.
Traffic was severely impacted, with long backups reported on Interstate 580 and Highway 24 near the Caldecott Tunnel.
El Cerrito police had pursued one of the vehicles involved, but terminated the pursuit before the crash occurred.
All lanes were reopened by 9 a.m., but the incident remains under investigation.
