Fatal Crash Closes Key Commuter Route in Walnut Creek

An 18-year-old driver died after crashing into a power pole on Ygnacio Valley Road, causing an all-day road closure.

The crash occurred around 1:05 a.m. between Civic Drive and North Broadway.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.
PG&E crews worked to replace the power pole, with power restored quickly.
Ygnacio Valley Road, a major commuter route, is expected to remain closed for most of the day.
