Fargo School Board Narrows New Elementary Name to Five With Prairie Rose Leading

The board will select a final name on Nov. 25 following extensive public input.

  • Board members cut a list of 29 finalists to five for the new northside elementary after tallying published votes.
  • The finalists are Prairie Rose (208), Horace Mann (200), North Star (186), Unity (170), and Martin Luther King Jr. (170).
  • More than 430 unique name submissions were received, including 92 variations referencing Charlie Kirk, which did not advance.
  • Board member Nyamal Dei urged choosing a name that reflects kindness, unity, and community pride for the diverse Fargo–Moorhead area.
  • The school will consolidate the Horace Mann–Roosevelt and Madison attendance areas and is scheduled to open in fall 2028.
