- Effective July 1, Illinois will levy a per-wager tax of 25 cents for the first 20 million bets and 50 cents on each additional wager.
- FanDuel will begin charging a 50-cent transaction fee on every bet placed in Illinois starting September 1, 2025, and will drop the fee if the state reverses the tax.
- DraftKings, which together with FanDuel accounts for about 75% of Illinois sports betting wagers, has said it plans to announce its own surcharge soon.
- Citizens Gaming analyst Jordan Bender estimates the new tax will cost FanDuel roughly $86 million and DraftKings about $79 million in 2026.
