FanDuel Sets December Launch for CME-Backed Prediction App as Nevada Forces Exit

Nevada’s rebuke coincides with FanDuel’s CME-backed plan to sell CFTC-regulated event contracts in non-betting states.

Overview

  • Nevada’s Gaming Control Board accepted Flutter’s license surrender and DraftKings’ application withdrawals, calling planned sports event contracts unlawful under state law.
  • FanDuel Predicts will offer sports outcome contracts only where online sports betting is not legal and will exclude users on tribal lands, with sports contracts ending in any state that later legalizes online sportsbooks.
  • The app will also list non-sports event contracts tied to the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, oil and gas, gold, cryptocurrencies, GDP, and CPI, with prices from $0.01 to $0.99.
  • FanDuel says the platform will use its existing KYC and player-protection tools, while CME’s CFTC/NFA registrations are expected to support the regulatory pathway.
  • DraftKings is preparing a similar rollout after applying to the NFA and acquiring Railbird, as state and tribal lawsuits and federal scrutiny continue to cloud timing and scope.
