Overview

  • This marks FanDuel’s first customer-facing fee of its kind globally and will apply to every wager starting September 1.
  • Illinois’ Transaction Fee will levy a per-bet charge on licensed platforms from July 1 and is projected to generate over $36 million annually.
  • FanDuel has pledged to remove the surcharge immediately if lawmakers reverse the new tax policy.
  • CEO Peter Jackson said absorbing last year’s rate hike is no longer feasible and cautioned that the fee could drive bettors to unregulated operators.
  • Rival DraftKings is evaluating a similar surcharge to manage the increased operating costs imposed by the state levy.
