Family to Challenge Police Over Lack of Probe in 22-Year-Old’s Online Poison Death

The coroner has consulted the National Crime Agency about related supplier cases, with an inquest set for March 5–6, 2026.

Overview

  • Northumbria Police told a pre-inquest hearing there is no criminal investigation into Grace Nevens’s death after she ingested poison bought online.
  • The family, represented by Leigh Day, said they will seek a formal review of the decision not to investigate the seller.
  • Senior coroner Andrew Hetherington said he is aware of inquiries into alleged suppliers in Canada and Ukraine and has spoken with the National Crime Agency.
  • The family asked the inquest to examine emergency response issues, including whether paramedics carry an antidote, and submitted packaging found in Grace’s room.
  • The coroner noted the inquest would be adjourned if police open a probe, but for now it is provisionally listed for March 5–6, 2026.
