Family Sentenced for Abuse Leading to Woman's Vegetative State

A man and his parents have been jailed for the severe abuse of his wife, resulting in catastrophic injuries and a persistent vegetative state.

Ambreen Fatima Sheikh, a 30-year-old woman, was poisoned with anti-diabetes medication and doused in a corrosive substance by her husband and his parents, leaving her in a vegetative state.
The abuse occurred after Sheikh was brought to the UK from Pakistan following an arranged marriage.
Sheikh, now 39, is in a palliative care setting, unaware of her surroundings and unable to respond to pain or motor stimuli, with no expectation of recovery.
The family members were found guilty of allowing a vulnerable adult to suffer physical harm and conspiring to pervert the course of justice, receiving sentences ranging from suspended to over seven years in jail.
The case highlights severe domestic abuse and the manipulation of justice, with the victim's condition described as unlikely to improve.
