Family Pays Tribute to Nila Patel as Suspect Appears in Leicester Murder Case

Overview

  • Michael Chuwuemeka, 23, appeared via video link at Leicester Crown Court and was remanded in custody charged with murdering 56-year-old Nila Patel.
  • Chuwuemeka also faces dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply class B drugs, attempted grievous bodily harm, assault of an emergency worker and causing actual bodily harm in London.
  • Patel died in hospital on June 26 from a head injury sustained two days earlier after a white BMW overturned on Aylestone Road and she was allegedly attacked by its driver.
  • Police have appealed for dashcam and CCTV footage from the Voco hotel area and nearby streets to aid their homicide investigation.
  • Patel’s children, Jaidan and Danika, described their mother as a “beautiful, vibrant soul” and a devoted parent in tributes released through Leicestershire Police.
