Family of Woman Found Dead in Flat After Three Years Raised Concerns Months Prior

Laura Winham's family repeatedly alerted authorities about her welfare before her decomposed body was discovered in her Woking flat.

Laura Winham, 41, was found dead by her brother in May 2021, three-and-a-half years after her death in November 2017.
Her family had contacted Woking Borough Council in March 2021, reporting concerns about her welfare and unopened mail accumulating at her door.
Authorities and energy suppliers made numerous attempts to contact Winham before her body was discovered, including a gas check in December 2018.
Winham's family struggled to maintain contact due to her schizophrenia, which caused her to believe they would harm her.
Woking Borough Council has since changed its policies, implementing stricter measures for home visits and contacting next of kin.
