Family Files Lawsuit Against Poultry Plant After Teen's Fatal Accident

Edilma Perez Ramirez has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Mar-Jac Poultry, following the death of her son, Duvan Perez, who was killed while cleaning machinery at the plant.
The lawsuit claims Mar-Jac Poultry and its employees knowingly operated the machine while Perez was in a position to be injured, and allowed him to work underage and without proper training.
An investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration found the company did not utilize procedures to ensure the machine would not unintentionally turn on during cleaning, leading to 17 violations and proposed penalties of over $200,000.
Perez's death marks the third employee fatality at the Mar-Jac facility in less than three years, highlighting a history of safety violations at the plant.
The family seeks compensation for medical expenses, future earnings, emotional distress, and attorney fees, while Mar-Jac claims it was unaware of Perez's age and is conducting an audit to prevent future incidents.
