• Counter-terror police say Jihad Al‑Shamie carried out a car-and-knife assault outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation on Yom Kippur before being shot dead by armed officers.
• Victims were named as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, with Daulby helping to barricade the doors and Cravitz understood to have stopped the attacker from entering the building.
• Greater Manchester Police say it is currently believed Daulby’s fatal injury may have been caused by officers’ gunfire during efforts to end the attack, and another worshipper sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
• Daulby’s family called him a hero who died trying to save others, while Cravitz’s family described him as a devoted, kind figure who would help anyone.
• Investigators reported the attacker wore a device later found to be not viable, multiple arrests have been made with further arrests reported overnight, and a community vigil drew local leaders and national politicians.
