Led by the victims’ families with backing from national and local authorities, the project will transform the site of last summer’s vigil into a child-focused community space.

Overview

  • On June 10, the families of Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice da Silva Aguiar met Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner to finalise the regeneration vision.
  • The £10 million investment breaks down into £5 million from the UK Government and £2.5 million each from Sefton Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
  • Town Hall Gardens will be redesigned as a safe, family-friendly hub for open-air performances, arts activities and community gatherings in tribute to the three girls.
  • The gardens became a centre for unity last July when thousands joined a vigil after the knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class that claimed the girls’ lives.
  • Local leaders say the redevelopment will enhance Southport’s cultural offerings, support economic recovery and honour the community’s resilience.
