False Alarms at Three Southwest Germany Schools Prompt Major Police Response

Police are treating the alerts as misuse cases with no indication of coordination.

Overview

  • An Amokalarm at a Kirchheim unter Teck gymnasium at 7:55 a.m. led to a full evacuation and search, and police later assessed it as a false alarm triggered by a pressed button with the person responsible still unknown.
  • About an hour later a primary school in Gaggenau reported a similar alert that officers now also regard as a false alarm after finding no irregularities during building searches.
  • Roughly 900 students in Kirchheim and about 230 in Gaggenau were moved to collection points and picked up by parents as areas were secured and cordoned off.
  • A separate incident at another Kirchheim gymnasium involved a pressed fire alarm, prompting a brief evacuation before students returned to class about 30 minutes later.
  • Investigators opened cases for suspected misuse of emergency-call systems, the Interior Ministry’s situation center reported no signs of a link between incidents, classes were canceled for the day, crisis teams assisted, one relative was briefly detained, an officer was slightly injured, and one student received on-site medical care.
