The franchise icon takes over with final authority to set direction, beginning the coach and GM searches.

Overview

  • Atlanta named Ryan its first president of football, giving him final say on football decisions as the head coach and general manager report to him while he reports to owner Arthur Blank.
  • Ryan was selected after interviews with Lions executive Mike Disner, Panthers executive Brandt Tilis, 49ers executive Josh Williams and Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham.
  • With Ryan now leading the process, the Falcons have begun lining up coaching interviews, including Seattle offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, and Blank has signaled interest in John Harbaugh.
  • The leadership overhaul follows the firings of head coach Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot and the elevation of Greg Beadles to team president/CEO after a Sportsology audit cited vision and accountability issues.
  • Ryan is leaving his CBS role and will be introduced at a Tuesday news conference as he starts the searches for Atlanta’s next football leadership team.
