Fairphone Launches Repairable Fairbuds 2 With Replaceable Batteries

The earbuds aim to lengthen device life by selling spare parts and making the earbuds and case batteries user‑replaceable to cut electronic waste.

Overview

  • Fairphone unveiled the Fairbuds 2 on Oct. 14, and the earbuds are on sale now in the UK and Europe with a U.S. release set for Nov. 2.
  • The design includes seven user‑replaceable parts and allows the battery in each earbud to be removed without tools while the case battery is reachable with a single Torx T5 screw.
  • Fairphone advertises up to eight hours of listening on the buds with ANC off, six hours with ANC on, and up to 40 hours total using the charging case.
  • The Fairbuds 2 use 11mm bio‑cellulose drivers, support Sony’s LDAC codec for higher‑bitrate streaming, offer hybrid ANC (claimed up to 45dB), multipoint pairing, and an app EQ.
  • Fairphone says the product uses 49% fair and recycled materials, the plastics and silicone are PFAS‑free, charging is USB‑C only, the rating is IP54, and a three‑year warranty plus online spare parts sales are meant to lower waste and extend ownership.
