Fairfield Man Arrested in Bay Area School Burglary Spree Targeting Teachers’ Credit Cards

Investigators say he targeted classrooms to steal teachers' credit cards for fraudulent purchases.

Overview

  • Fremont school resource officers arrested Christopher Britton on Nov. 3 in Walnut Creek after spotting him returning a rental vehicle believed tied to a burglary, with Walnut Creek police assisting.
  • The probe began Oct. 3 with a suspicious-person report at a Fremont elementary school and later connected similar classroom thefts in Solano, Contra Costa, Marin, Alameda and Yolo counties.
  • Police say the suspect entered unoccupied classrooms, stole teachers’ credit cards and used them at retail stores, with Livermore schools among those reporting losses.
  • Contra Costa County authorities say Britton is being held without bail at the West County Detention Facility, with a court appearance scheduled for Nov. 14.
  • Earlier this year he was arrested in Marin on a no-bail Marin warrant and a $210,000 Contra Costa Ramey warrant, and police are asking additional potential victims to file reports as the prior case status remains unclear.
