Facundo Bagnis Accepts 12-Month Doping Suspension

The ITIA determined an independent lab found hydrochlorothiazide in a prescribed supplement and offered a reduced sanction that ends on 17 October 2026.

Overview

  • An in-competition urine sample taken during US Open qualifying on 18 August 2025 tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic and masking agent on WADA’s prohibited list.
  • Bagnis began a voluntary provisional suspension on 18 October 2025 while he cooperated with investigators and that period will count toward his final ban.
  • He supplied receipts, communications with his doctor and expert reports identifying a prescribed supplement as the suspected source of the substance.
  • A WADA-accredited independent laboratory that the ITIA commissioned confirmed the presence of hydrochlorothiazide in the supplied product and supported the contamination explanation.
  • On 13 July 2026 the player accepted a negotiated 12-month sanction, waived an independent hearing, and will be eligible to return to competition on 17 October 2026; during the ban he is barred from official events and ATP- or ITF-sanctioned activity.
